Trophies

Do not waste precious bits
of your life chasing "friends".
You chase your dreams,
and sometimes your dog,
but never your friends.

If you must chase them,
if you must ask again and
again for their time or some
indication that you matter
... you don't, and should let
them go, to find the people
who do matter to them.

Friends are like fish, Some
are true trophies that you
want to keep forever and
others, others are best set free.
There are few trophies.

I love this and the picture is fabulous. I am not a person who has a large cache of close friends. I have friends I've had forever, friends I have made over the years at work and many acquaintances. Friendship is work and the older I get the pickier I am. I am truly at a point where I don't have energy to make more friends. Does that sound awful? I don't know. I do cherish those that I have known for decades. Like I tell my 4th graders, you don't have to be friends with everyone but you do need to be nice to them. This is a great poem and it hits the mark perfectly.

I am so grateful to icelandicblue for recommending your poem to me. Otherwise, I wouldn't have had the pleasure of reading the last three poems.

First, I love the picture. Both subjects are so endearing, with the absolute sweetest faces.

As for the poem, you couldn't have said your message any clearer. It's sad but true. Otherwise known as life.
