Chapter Six: Demons Love Watermelons?

Chapter Six: Demons Love Watermelons?

A Chapter by TheBakaKitsune

I woke up the next morning and ate whatever that thing was Makai brought for me to eat. "You said you wanted me to take you to a library, right?" Makai asks. "Yep. There's one right where we made out contract at. Do you remember where it's at?" "Of course I do. Now let's get going!" He says while picking me up bridal style. His beautiful wings come out and he begins to fly. "I believe we've already been over this! You're going way to fast! Slow down or I'm gonna be sick!!" I feel my stomach churning. "I'm going about mach 30. What's the matter, can't handle it?" He teases. Right after he says that, he gets a little payback for being so rude. The bile rises in my throat and gets all over cocky Makai's shirt. "Oh!!! Humans are disgusting!!!" Makai screams while landing. Luckily, it happened right as we arrived right outside of my house. "It's your own fault! I told you to slow down or I'd be sick, you speed demon!" He takes off his shirt and I get a look at his body. He has very toned muscles and pale skin. I also notice many scars on his back and a few on his chest. "Eeew! It soaked through my shirt! I need a bath. Now." I take him into my home and run a shower for him. I sit on the couch and wait for him to get out. I hear the bathroom door open and look up. Out comes Makai, totally naked. Both the couch and I go tumbling backwards as I scream at the top of my lungs. Without getting up, I yell "Put some clothes on pervert!!! I can't even believe you now!" I throw my flower vase at him and it shatters when it hits his face. I thought I had hurt him so I look to see if he's okay. There's not even blood! "What, did you expect that to hurt?" He asks teasingly. "Shut up! And put some clothes on!" He holds out his hand and a black card forms in it. Clothes begin to appear around him. He has on a black T-shirt and gothic looking jeans. "He looks really good." I think to myself. I blush and push the thought away.  "What's your problem! You can't just walk around naked! It's inappropriate!" I yell at him. "Well I'm clothed now so quit whining about it!" "What, do demons not wear clothes?" I ask sarcastically. "Ptf, nope. We have no need for clothes. Unless are master requests we wear them, we just walk around hell totally naked." I groan. "Well, this is the human world and I expect you to act human, so no strolling in the nude!" I remember we came here to get some information on the kappa. "Let's just get to the library."
I walk with Makai to the public library and go to the section on Japanese folklore. We find one book containing information regarding the kappa. I show him the book so he can read it with me. "What are you staring at me for? I can't read human's languages." He states. "Huh, fine I'll read it to you like a wittle baby!" I tease with a babying voice. "Just read the stupid thing already!" He yells. I giggle and begin to read. "Kappa are typically depicted as roughly humanoid in form, and about the size of a child. Their scaly, reptilian skin ranges in color from green to yellow or blue. Kappa supposedly inhabit the ponds and swamps of Japan. Although their appearance varies from region to region, the most consistent features are a carapace, a beak for a mouth, and a plate, which is a flat hairless region on top of their head that is always wet, and which is regarded as the source of their power. This cavity must be full whenever a kappa is away from the water." I skim the article for more important information. "No wonder that perverted demoness wants one. They would get along perfectly." "What do you mean?" Makai asks. "It seems they are very mischievous. They have a habit of looking up women's kimonos and are total perverts." I continue reading. "Kappa obsess over being polite, so if a person were to gesture a deep bow to a kappa it would  likely return the gesture. In doing so, the water kept in the lilypad-like bowl on their head would spill out and the kappa would be rendered unable to leave the bowed position until the bowl was refilled with water. If a human were to refill it, it was believed the kappa would serve them for all eternity. Oooo and it seems they have a love for cucumbers." "What's a cucumber?" Makai asks innocently. I laugh at hearing him ask something so silly. "It's a vegetable humans eat. I have all the information I need to capture one of these things, so let's get back to that swamp you took me to yesterday. But before we go, I need to get some stuff from the market."

We walk to the market where I find a big bag full of cucumbers. I look around for Makai and I can't see him. "Makai, where are you?" I ask rather loudly. I eventually see him by the fruit stand sniffing a watermelon. I walk over to him. "What are you doing?" I ask. "It smells so good! It's so round and wonderful!" He begins to pet the watermelon. The look on the fruit stand guy's face was priceless. "I'll take that watermelon please." I decide to be nice and buy it for him. "Now all we need is an animal trap cage." We pick up the cage and I have Makai carry it. It's for large animals and a child could easily fit in it. We leave the market and walk to an alleyway. His wings come out and he picks me up again. "This time I won't go so fast." He says. We begin flying at a slower pace. It took us about thirty minutes to get back to the swamp. I was surprised at how slow he actually went. "Good, he learned his lesson." Once we get to the swamp water's edge, I make Makai place the cage by a tree near the water. We cover it completely with leaves and grass and I place the cucumbers in the cage and tie them up with vine so they hang from the cage. Once the creature grabs the cucumbers by pulling on the vine, the cage door will shut and it will be trapped. I tell Makai my plan and we make camp a little ways away from the trap. It gets dark fast so we, well, Makai makes a fire and a tent for me like last time. I go to bed early because of the tiresome day we had. I fell asleep fast and have a fairly peaceful sleep throughout the night. That is, until I am woken up the next morning by an animalistic scream
