Coughing Cinnamon

Coughing Cinnamon

A Poem by The Things She Noted

He’s sweet like cinnamon

Just as bitter

Hard to swallow

Hold him in my mouth

Choke him out

The dust of the bark

Too heavy to float to the top

Sinking in my cup of tea

Drowning in my sorrows

Apples

And autumn

Cinnamon too

Baking in the oven

Set at 300

Burnt

Charred

I nibble around the centre

Just to be polite

Far too late

To tell you

That I’ve never liked the taste

MMmmm,

Cinnamon toast with a hot mug of lapsang souchang tea is one of my favorites, but you're so right; dry, this piquant spice will make you cough and burn (metaphorically and literally) with a bitter taste from your romantically sad, lonesome heart and soul to your toes.
Cinnamon, like a lover, needs just the right amount of sugar to make it/him appealing to one's desire and hungered-for taste.
Excellent artwork choice of delicious cinnamon rolls to set the perfect mood, too. : )

I really enjoy how your mind works and flows in-between your creative wordplay … quite impactful; you really had your pen dancing … love it, Lady-Poet! ⁓ Richard 🍃

Nicely written poem and intriguing title. Seems heartfelt.

Thank you so much! :)
Well written. The thing about spice, eh? The thing about men. And women, and lovers; all just things, eh?
