Sovereign

Sovereign

A Poem by C Peril

I don't wish to be a Sovereign, no I know
I ain't so noble I don't dream of Proclamations
Surveying with a Sceptre and a Crown
No standing armies set to subjugate
No blood hungry ambition
for the birds of the sky
and the mammals of the land
to succumb and bow My Domain

Because I could build this beautiful Empire
stretching over the vast expanse of sea
and fields green and how little it would mean
For I don't have you with me No
concubine No thrill from foreign
dignitaries Could suppress what's in
my heart

Girl if I were to rule, I'd rule over the dark
And everything would surely wilt
For the grief that dwells
in me

Is the only thing I cannot conquer
