Mermaid Girl [Gin]

Mermaid Girl [Gin]

A Poem by C Peril

You were alone, holding gin
Decidedly thin Like part of
you had wilted; like part of
you had dimmed

But in that sequin dress, a
mermaid's mess, I found you
to be uniquely pretty
and vibrant

Oh what a waiting stare (what
fool just left you there),
candle glare - the soft, warm,
orange hope in your eyes

[My eyes avoid the thighs]

The tide of people recedes,
but you linger and breathe
Despondent, but perfectly
ready to do this all again

I'm off to bed - pricked my finger
on a rose and bled
Mermaid girl still in my head
Always in my head
