Know That I Too
We are never alone (a poem for mental health month)
He Shall Not Prevail

He Shall Not Prevail

A Poem by Tomás Ó Cárthaigh
"

Poem on the holocaust and hitler, based on a quotation from the Book of Daniel

"

A man, a maniac had a vision
In which he ultimately did fail
For as it was promised in Daniel
He who lifts multitudes shall not prevail
Though he seeks to cast down tens of thousands
Whose worship exalts his heart
He shall find he has less at the end
That he and his land possessed at the start.

And he shall meet his vengeful God
And the judgment on him shall be
That those who oppressed the leased of men
Did the same to God, and angered He
Shall cast the man two the flames
Of Hell, with his multitudes uplifted
To have an exalted heart there for all eternity
And salvation to those he cast down shall be gifted.

Predicted in Daniel it proved to be
Hitler rose, and lifted multitudes of a nation
Promised them Empire, Glory and God
And for the Jews he planned annihilation
And the Gypsies, and all others
Who from the earth he wished to cast
That would be ruled by his Reich
That for a thousand years would last.

His heart, how it was exalted
As he fierce speeches to his nation he made
To be strong, and build their empire
Wipe out the Jews, be not afraid
And they replied "Heil, Hiel" to him
And marched by lights under banners in formation
And exalted heart in his breast swelled
As he saw the glory of his nation.

And he cast down tens of thousands
For he decreed die they should
For they were not of Aryan stock
And so bore in their veins the wrong blood.
By Gas Van, by shooting squads, by gas chamber
To their deaths the condemned went
But God was with them in their final hours
And a fate much worse waits for those who them to their deaths sent

And they did not prevail
He who lifted multitudes with his lovely voice
Saw his own sent down, his Reich in ruins
And himself he felt he had no choice
But die, and he met his maker
And the glorious finale let us tell
Jew and gypsy both prosper
While he and his roast in Hell.

I'm speechless. Such a powerful piece dealing with such a tragic subject and yet somehow you've found a way to make it beautiful. I think it's in the words you've carefully chosen and the justice that history brought to the end of that time.
'But God was with them in their final hours' Yes, beautifully written. Brought a tear to my eye and a sigh to my lips. Thank you for sharing it.

One of the most enduring scourges in human history.
How terrible and how fearful what humans can do to each other.
And there shall be consequences and debts to be paid...

I wish I'd have written these words. This generation knows little of the hate of the Reich and its mission. Least we forget and suffer it all over again. kYour word are beutiful and need to be sent to every coner of the earth.

often it is difficult to get readers to buy into poetry with a scriptural basis or reference but you have crafted this piece so well.

Wow, very powerful. Love the anger in this poem as well as the religious undertones. Usually historically-based poems tend to be a little strange, but this one worked well. Your passion for the subject is evident through your strong language and imagery. I really enjoyed reading this. =)

Im glad all of you have liked it so much, pity its topic is so true. The typos I really must work on, I'll be redoing all the videos when I get the chance, I just do them for fun at the moment, so they are not 100% correct for grammer, spellings etc. I appreciate those who point them out!!!!
