So Cold

So Cold

A Poem by Trisha Saban
"

The story of two young people, falling in love, until war. Thank you, soldiers.

"
We meet each other under the tree,
The tree outside in the park.
It's blossoming
Becoming beautiful
Every time I see it.
Two years pass, and I saw the ring
Pulled out upon me
In that tiny black box
Something shining and beautiful
Revealing itself
To many tears of joy.
The wedding dress is chosen
So long, and frail
Gentle cotton, so much beauty
All for one day only.
The honeymoon is set
The love is near
Our clothes thrown,
Falling, falling
Onto the floor
Falling asleep, with the feeling
Of everlasting love
And then the tree.
The blossoming tree.
I still see you there
When I'm lying in bed
Your smile gentle
Your lips gentle
Your eyes gentle
Flashbacks, a bullet
A gun, a target.
His chest.
The bullet, burrowing down into him,
Tearing through him
His heart.
But it's not his pain, that is worse.
It is mine, my pain.
The pain as he is on the hospital bed,
His army gear, still on his frail body,
The memories that we had before.
The romance, the wedding, the sex,
Everything. Everything.
Gone.
Away.
Swept into the wind.
My heart, it is cold,
As I pull out the gun.
One bullet.
Tears dripping.
Standing.
In front of the mirror.
With the gun in my mouth.
The taste of it,
On my tongue,
The cold, sharp taste.
The blossoming tree
Is burning.
Into a million ashes.
It is gone, not beautiful.
Like my heart.
Our love.
I pulled the trigger.
The last sight
Blood.
Everywhere.
I felt like smiling.
Darkness swept over,
Carrying me,
As God carried me to him.

Wow! This is amazing. I love your poem. I think it's just amazing how you worded things and feelings and images. It's just amazing! I don't think you need to change anything. It's just that great. I don't have anyone in the military anymore. I did have a cousin though. He died 9/11. He was in the pentagon for some reason. No one has yet told me why he was really there. He was supposed to be in Iraq or Afghanistan, but he wasn't. He was at the pentagon for only God knows why. But I really do love this poem.

this is the feel of heart in pure bloom~ and then the thorns come to encircle it~ plucking them out is not always easy~ sometimes the heart dies~ the thorns bury deeper~ I lost someone a long time ago to a violent death in front of my eyes~ I thought for a moment of falling in front of a bullet~ but only for a moment~ vengance was more my speed at that very young age~
excruciating subject matter handled with grace and care in the pulse of your poetic~
