Four Letter Word

I feel this poem needs some work, maybe a whole restructuring, but I like some aspects of it, although I'm being told not to change it so maybe I'm just too much of a perfectionist for my own good

Four Letter Word

 

LOVE, this four letter word should be used wit the greatest grace and care,

Because this word can tear you apart without you even being aware.

It is so great when you find that person you can share all these emotions.

You are mesmerized, and captivated by every word, every breath, every motion.

But, what do you do when they don’t share that same physical attraction?

Do you just push those feelings aside with such disgust, such neglect, such dissatisfaction?

You hope those feelings can grow, stretch, or just bend,

Until you hear that heart aching, dreadful sentence: “Oh they’re just a friend.”

Or what if you both love each other, but it just doesn’t seem right?

If love is so pure, so true, is it supposed to involve such negative fight?

Do you quit, run, end it right now and here?

Or do you continue on, and see how much more you can endure?

Then there’s when everything is going great, so great you can’t believe its true,

But you feel stuck because the other cringes at the thought of saying “I do.”

How can one feeling contain so many emotions when it is referred?

And all of that is bottled up in one wonderful, destructive, blissful, and explosive 4 letter word.

I really like it... love is many things.. do not look for protection or possession when you search for love.. if the other party is afraid or does not relish saying "I do" ... well I am there with them.. it's only paper and possession in my mind.. I have always been afraid of loosing my identity (sounds stupid but true) and certain rights that go along with that. If you love someone... that should be "unconditional" and if they do not meet your terms then you do not love them enough... love is powerful, releasing, feeling... thank you so much for sharing your great writing... I would not change much.. it comes from yourself within!
