The WildernessA Story by Ellie VeniceWriting challenge day 5-write a cliffhanger. The short scene is about a boy and his brother running from some unknown threat.
We ran through the wilderness. Never stopping, too scared to be caught. Running. It's the only thing we do now. We run for half a mile before we even considered stopping. They let out their dogs on our scent. I can hear their barking nearing us. I pulled my little brother through the water, hoping to make the dogs lose our scent. We run around the forest before we settle into a path. We finally find shelter in a cave and I decide it's safe enough to stop. We settle there and I place my jacket over my little brother as he lays down. I wrap my arms around him, warming him and I both. We fall asleep as the rain starts falling. Its rhythmical pitter-patter lulling me to sleep. Thud! Something hits the ground waking me up from my dreamless sleep. I almost get up to see what it was when I hear footsteps approaching. I hold my breath, scared for my life. I look down to see that my little brother is still asleep.
A face shows itself as it round the corner of the cave. "Say goodnight, little boy," is the last thing I hear before my world went dark.
