Last Light

Last Light

A Poem by Brandon M. Mitchell
"

This is a poem about a person who has only one goal, to fight for her life to save the lives of others. This is the prophecy of the Last Light. :D

"

Last Light

Snow falls from the dark sky,

The white flakes of ice that fall from unknown bounds,

My eyes sting from the cold,

Shivering as the freezing wind brushes against my fragile body,

This blizzard of blind darkness.

This dry air scratches at my throat,

Every step into the unknown is a stab in the heart,

Screaming in agony from this frost haven of hell,

Save me from this everlasting wind,

This brutal storm of agony.

Grab my hand and set me free,

My soul lingers in this hellish nightmare,

A nightmare in which there is no escape,

Nobody has ever made it from this world alive,

All have suffered great misery and fell through despair.

The prophecy with a single purpose,

To find the Last Light,

To save many hearts of this forsaken realm,

Shining brightly for the heavens,

The light that will end this hell.

The sound of the wind screaming,

Screaming to give up,

Screaming to end it all,

May the final breathe be far down the road,

The road of endless memories.

I stumble to the frozen ground,

I get back to my feet,

And continue marching till that light bleeds heat through these lands.

In the distance,

I see a faded glow,

The glow of the heavens,

The snow evades me as I walk closer,

Closer to a new beginning.

Reaching forward,

I feel a burn sliding across my arm,

What is this feeling?

Is this the prophecy?

Is this the Last Light?

I run into the heart of the light,

I feel this world fade from my eyes,

Fading into a colorful paradise,

A paradise in which animals roam free and green fills this empty world.

This was the legend,

The legend of the Last Light,

The legend that brings this forsaken world forward to a new beginning.

I like your thoughts very much. You have a poet's intuition. But I feel that you need to tighten your verse to eliminate the unnecessary components. Lets take this verse:

"The prophecy with a single purpose,

The purpose to find the Last Light,

The light which could save the many hearts which lie on this forsaken realm,

The light that shines brightly for the heavens,

The light that will end this hell."

It might be rewritten thus:

"The prophecy with a single purpose;
To find the Last Light;
To save the many hearts of this forsaken realm;
Shining brightly for the heavens;
The light that will end this hell."

Sometimes less is more and showing is always more effective that telling because you are using your reader's imagination to produce the desired vision rather than your own. Just think on this and I hope you find it helpful.
