A Single Mothers Prayer

A Single Mothers Prayer

A Poem by Ursula Kay Vos
"

This is dedicated to all single mothers who ponder exsistence alone, or attempt to battle through a relationship.

"

The sky is black

Stars hide tonight

A dark and grey night

Joy fills my heart

for a battle nearing

Its final completion

Another string that held my heart

Together for so long

slowly unwraps and rolls away

Like a kitten playing

with a ball of yarn

My heart unravels slowly

The string unfurls

The kitten plays

A tear escapes slowly

Salty and sweet

trailing my cheek

Smiling as I cry

If ever you wonder

Why a happy girl cries

Her silence tells no lie

That ball of yarn

wound too tight

for far too long

Holding together

the mess that is me

While hiding my hearts sorrows

Bound inside

A little girl cries

For a dream that never came true

Pieces of shattered dreams

She has collected

of pain and heartache too

She catches a leaf

as it falls from a tree

On a brisk autumn day

Locking it inside

Hoping one day

All the pieces will be saved

These silent tears

Of a happy girl

A secret she holds near

Come far to often

Are far to near

No escape, even if due

Silent prayers

fill her head

days are filled by dreams

Of a simple life

It seems so near

Passing her it seems

Her aching soul

Cries out once more

A dream she feels wont come

Counting days fills an hourglass

telling her the sand is low

The beach has no more room to run

Pondering exsistence

The cruel games played

Sitting, musing a grey evening

 A horrid reminder today

She's getting old

She's been tired

No patients for this fight

She never thought

It was asking much

To not be alone

Night after night

Mornings so cruel

sipping her brew

making tea for one

Cooking a beautiful dinner

caroling all alone

Looking to her future

She see days turning to weeks

As she ponders exsistence

With a man who isn't worth it

Or a lifetime of restless sleep.

Author's Note

Ursula Kay Vos
edited 10~18~2011 for grammar. I a lot of times have mixups with simple grammar issues, but what do I expect when I dropped out before I finished 9th?! I got my g.e.d. when I was 17 and the mother of two so I didn't have time to take it twice so I made sure I read the questions all the way through and I passed but without going all the way through or even most of the way through high school I do mix up a lot of what would be simple grammar and punctuation. I am always trying to improve and so I do appreciate any and all help when I do make mistakes! I honestly don't like my writing to be second rate because I mis-spelled words or didnt punctuate things properly! Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to point out and help me correct the little things I have left out or mis-stepped on! Your reviews and feedback is always welcome and appreciated!

First the spelling. Cry's becomes cries. Secondly it's stunning. Painfully beautiful. Agonisingly ectatinc. Such a flip-flop between emotions and images os perfectly handled. Wonderful write. It grabs the guts and squeezes softly, but doesn't stop.
