Musings on a Muse

Musings on a Muse

A Poem by Dripping Chocolate Madness
"

Shenanigans

"
Another coffee, another spoon
Of turbinado, then to my room
I take a sip, and watch the moon
Waxing from my window

Roasted nuts and caramel
And Cocoa notes. A lovely smell
A hint of spice, perhaps, as well?
Only just a hint, though.

The moon is dressed in brilliant white
Reveling in silver light
It's smaller half, hidden from sight
...I think they call that "gibbous".

So long ago, so many years...
In science class, with plastic spheres
Showing how the moon appears
And how it becomes hidden

I wonder if that's what you'd wear
A silvery-white dress so fair
In blinding contrast to your hair...
Those foaming root beer ribbons

And if, like it, you refuse to show
Your entire beauty, even though
There is no shadow dark enough
That you could hide within it

A passing car illuminates
My chain link fence, and rusted gate
It fills me with disgust, and hate
I need to leave this city

Give me trees, and open sky
With lots of stars to track you by
Give me Mountains, and valleys wide
Just don't give me your pity

I'd rather smiles, for they sustain
My inner peace, and restore my strength
Just send them to the moon, and then
He'll send them down to me

Send them up in packs of six
(Or as many as you wish)
I'll take whatever you can dish
As long as they're for free

I wouldn't have cash, or bartered goods
And likely, I'd be in the woods
Living on smiles like they were food
And drawing nearer to you

With pockets full of chocolate bars
(Not for eating, because they're yours)
Navigating by the stars
And the smiling, silver moon

But alas, it's here I sit
(Unfortunately, for quite a bit)
So I'll make do with just your wit
And the smiles, as you send them

And the games we play
Which, I must say...
You could win on any day
And I love to imagine your grinning face
As you make up rules and bend them

I hope you check the midnight sky
Every evening, and this is why
You'll look up one night, and the moon will smile
And you'll know I'm on my way

So, as the moon rescinds from sight
And blackened sky gives way to light
I mourn the passing of the night
Yet, celebrate the day

Because I get to say
Good morning

This is even better than my current 2nd cup with salted-caramel-chocolate creamer (sickeningly sweet) . . . I'd have to say this is a favorite of mine for the month of August & I've done a bunch of poetry reading this month! I also have to say that I'm starting to click on your poems in my newsfeed becuz it's an instant-gratification thing. Some poets, I click reluctantly becuz I know I'm going to have to engage my brain cells, when I'm sitting here frying them with THC & caffeine. But I love to click on your poetry becuz it's always a simple pleasure & my foggy brain can just float along in ecstasy. This poem, in particular, fit that expectation. This is a lollygagging good time, but there's also some serious philosophy & some interesting direction changes that mix it up & keep it lively & compelling. Damn! I honestly thought you were going to be some kind of quack with that ridiculous handle. You are proving me way wrong on that score! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

PS -- you probably know I'm a rhyme-aholic & I was creaming my jeans to watch you sustain such a fun crisp rhyme & rhythm over such a long poem, but not having that aspect take over!

Ok. I'm really not sure I can say it any better than Margie and I agree with all she has said because she always seems to leave the most perfect comments. Except, I haven't creamed my Jeans. I take milk in my coffee. There's a wet spot (on my shirt), I must have dribbled.
