Peanut

Peanut

A Poem by K. Louis

When dad’s passed out by 6

and mom’s screaming her head off

about some missing keys

like the world is going to end

you wonder about

what’s really missing,

you wonder about

why the neighbor stays away

after he found Jesus.

was told that no,

the world isn’t going to end

on the 21st, or whatever day he was told.

hope explodes like the atom bomb

and you might as well have been

the snail run over by some cyclers tires

on a rainy day

because now you look like that naked little girl

in the black and white with the skin hanging off.

and maybe there aren’t some things you want

to survive

or the flood of how dare you’s

talking about precious life like it

were a

peanut.
