"Before"

"Before"

A Poem by Valentine

      "Before"

Before the final words are said,
And loves last dreams...are put to bed;
Listen to the hearts...final call
Ere heartbreak comes...to erase it all.

Before the first tear runs down the face,
In flowing streams...that patterns trace;
The heart is speaking...loud and clear,
If ears are open...to finally... hear.

Before the last footsteps...down the hall,
Echoes so loudly...off of each wall,
Pleas are coming, straight from this heart
One final word...before finalness starts.

Before the slamming... out of the door,
And it is too late...to start...all over;
The heart is making...one final try,
To express true love, before goodbye.

Before you turn...and just walk away,
Please listen to what...this heart does say.
Let it have...just one final chance,
To erase all past hurt...and peace enhance.

Before this heart accepts that, you will be gone,
God let it accept...and still be strong;
As your feet walk...down that hall,
Before the first teardrop...starts to fall.

Before this heart...just shatters and breaks,
Slam the door and go...for my soul's sake.

You're welcome!
There is lovely flow to your words, almost song like...and yet the pain and the emotion is felt in each wonderful verse. Truly a heartfelt peice and as always, a delight to read.

Really interesting piece valentine. I love the way you've created an atmosphere of picturesque anxiety here and then taken it to another level. Cheers!

Kathie, this is a sad but beautiful piece so full of pain so vivid that the reader hurts with you. It seems to ask only to be left alone in that place to let the heart shatter from the pain. So vividly expressed it is breath taking and heart felt. God Bless and take care.

Low key, sad, but truthful and well written as always. Good job valentine

This poem is one that many of us can relate to as it is so heartfelt. While it is hard to let go without one last try, the try would be futile when only one wants to mend the relationship. Sometimes it is better in the long run to just let him go. Having hope renewed by another try, in a situation like this, can make the final heartache even worse. I see David already pointed out that little grammatical error, and other than that, this is a well penned poem. Sad, but a reality for many.

Rather sad. Though if there is such a finality about it, asking for reprieve at this point would seem rather futile. I think you'd get more satisfaction throwing an entire coffee set at his head as he exits - (that's been my experience anyway - on the receiving end!!! lol)
(Stanza 3 - should be echo not echoes. The last footsteps echo...)
