Broken Body, Pure Spirit

Broken Body, Pure Spirit

A Poem by Verdant Cynic

I was walking along a road
Lost in my own thought
Contemplating what perfection is
And searching for answers.

I had tossed away my emotions
Seeking only the truth
No longer did I faithfully believe
In the the idea of Love.

But suddenly, it came before my eyes
A body of a battered young girl
She looks at herself
And is horrified at her scars.

I go to see
And look into her eyes
Deep beneath her pain
I saw a Light.

I was overcome with raw emotion.
My reason failed me here.
At that instant, I saw something pure
Deep inside of her heart.

As I stare into her eyes,
I see beneath her wounds,
a childlike and faithful devotion
and a bold spirit.

And, lo!
Despite her earthly body,
She is one of great power
And of great influence.

As I look closer,
She is no battered human at all.
For I see sparkling wings on her back.
She is an Angel.
