Her Light

A Poem by Violight

I am dealing with a rough break-up filled with betrayal. This poem came from me at a very raw time in my lowest point.

Roaming the dark for far too long,
just looking for somewhere to belong.
There you saw her - a golden light.
A wondrous heart that shined so bright.

A treasure unlike anything you've seen before.
Closer you approached, you needed more.
Addicted you became, a monster you were.
You swooped in with a dash and a blur.
You stole that girl's light,
And took off, running into the night,
holding onto it tightly, with all your might.

Run, run, little mouse, you’re almost free.
Guilt is close behind, don’t look back, you’ll see.

Her spirit lies within your shaking hand,
Her heart slows now, it’s all going to plan.
Selfish and cackling, you leave,
As the poor girl struggles to even breath.

Her vision becomes a dark haze,
As she wonders how she got to this place.
Alone and afraid, a tear trails her cheek.
Her eyes search, looking for her light, they seek.

Run little mouse, you’ve obtained her precious light.
Hide it within your darkened heart tonight.
Siphon it all as your world shifts from black to white,
May its purity save you from your blight.

You’ve claimed her shine as your own,
As you sit on top your liars throne,
Basking in your victorious day,
And return to your old way.

Sleep soundly now, it's coming to an end.
Moving forward you need no longer pretend.

Her eyes melt into puddles of darkness,
As she is drained of her kindness.
Stripped of all the comfort she has ever known,
And now her skin hardens as it becomes stone.

A stolen light,
A girl afraid of flight.
You took it all,
And left her helpless to the fall.

The floor dissolves beneath her,
As the last of her light trickles and flows into the transfer.
She is finally severed from her tether,
And tumbles down into the nether.

As she falls further into the abyss,
She wonders how it came to this.
Your lips cocked into a grin,
As she crashes down, and the page reads FIN.
