TURN AROUND, LOOK AT ME

TURN AROUND, LOOK AT ME

A Poem by Vol

I was sitting right here

just a second ago, but

WAIT!

the sun is hauling us

through space at,

four hundred forty eight

thousand miles per hour!

I was WAY back there

when I started this!

There’s more, the earth

orbits the sun at sixty-seven

thousand miles per hour just

to give me pause...

Inside my brain box

is the whole universe of

everything I have ever

seen, thought, or done, but

here’s the irony, so hang on...

The great expanse of time

before now has no memory of

me, but I swear I was there;

she was so soft in my arms,

her eyes blue as glacial ice

when we made sweet moan...

all of it reduced to sparkles

hung like threads of glass

from axon to neuron.

Swoosh! The pendulum

skims the end of my nose

and my toes to cut time itself

off at the near edge of now…

The past is empty, except for

the debris of fire and ice,

desire and disappointment

scattered like loose change.

It is time to………… STOP.

On my way to Werewolves of London...This just happened to fall right in front of me.

Oh, Vol, when I read, "she was so soft in my arms,

her eyes blue as glacial ice

when we made sweet moan...

all of it reduced to sparkles

hung like threads of glass

from axon to neuron"...I am jealous to tears...You are such an extinct covet! Romance is dead, love. Please live forever!

My brain box is getting old and rusted...I remember there are many things I have forgotten, but for the life of me I can't remember that I remember.

I figure it's all in there somewhere, I just don't remember where I put it...
And by the time I get to the end of this first sentence, we'll be thousands of miles away from where the sentence started at!
It's enough to make your brain dribble through your ears like a milkshake, which kinda puts into perspective those people that make you repeat yourself by answering a statement with the auto response of "what do you mean", putting their mouth in gear before their brain.
But at least it gives me the opperchancity to reply not with my usual "what do you mean what do I mean", but by confuselating them even more by replying to their moronic statement with "what, just that second ago that is now hundreds of miles in out past?"
Sometimes I wonder what would happen if we sheared a gear and the world stopped spinning. And yes, I looked it up and sadly it is more horrific than the imaginary "we'd all float off to space. So we can all thank Alexa for the demise we may or may not have to endure of going from zero to 8000 mph instantly, while all the while the pavement becomes like a cheese grater, turning us all into pizza topping without the yummy crunchy base! And I bet if the day comes it will indeed be a day when I've ironed my shirt for once and my last thought will be "and Gere was me thinking I was looking good a few seconds and a thousand or so miles ago!"
Now there's been a few nights when Alexa has entered my thoughts of an evening, but from now on it shall be with horror that makes apocalypse now look like a picnic, as the terror of that thought plays out in my mind in all its technicolour gory glory.
It's amazing if we'll ever sleep again now that I've shared that thought with you, but I cope in knowing that if I end up splattered on just the right building, I will be forever remembered as a work of modern art, probably called something like SPLAT! (Just like that sound when you stick a straw up a frogs a*s and blow really hard!) 😃

Thank you, Thomas, I always appreciate your encouragement...
The past is fond to look back upon or can be unwanted but either way we can not dwell there and take root in the past.

I like the way you use the sun and the speed to start this poem and describe a whole universe within your brain. Well done and extremely descriptive with lot of emotion poured into this piece
