My past will NOT define me

My past will NOT define me

A Poem by Victoria Papan

I've gone through up and downs
through all kinds of hurt and pain.
My past is ever looming,
trying to bring me down.
Always watching, waiting
for that one day when I slip up.
But no, you do not control me,
I am me.
Not some shadow of what could be...

A poem that urges self and others to not mourn the past and not to get lost in the future. i feel as though this is a cautionary letter to yourself, like a reminder to live in the present.
i like the last two stanzas and the way it cut to the end, simple short and reminiscent of the iconic 'lost generation' you me nikki and Holly are all Millennial children born in a time where the path to adulthood is shrouded in questions of what if, why and whats the point; the circumstances of ones past be it good or bad does not shape ones fat or destiny. and i feel that in this poem you are saying this to yourself.
a very inspirational write ;) thank you.
