Torn

Torn

A Poem by Ian Faraway

What happens to someone
Who carries two flames,
Two strong desires?

These two flames different
In their goals and more so
In their directions

They fight each other
Intertwining and tearing
Apart what that person felt

It creates uncertainty
Doubt in someone's goal
To the point of madness

One flame burns bright
And it is hot and eager
To sacrifice for others

The other burns bright
But it is cold and blue
Wanting only for itself

To sacrifice is nothing
If it isn't for a just cause
To throw away the cold fire

To want isn't selfish
It is a yearning to seek
A happier and better life

Both offer many rewards
And both is what one desires
But you can't have both

So now you know, friend
The torment and pain
Of being so torn

Didn't really do a 'rough draft'. I usually write or type it out and then put it on here. But I was bored and in deep thought so came straight here and typed it on the website. Hope you enjoyed it!

A very interesting poem. Life give us many choices. I look back and I wished I did things different. The poem open the door to questions we must learn by trying and good luck. Can't re-do the past. Can learn from it. All decision lead us to unknown places and pain. I tell people. If you want something. Don't do it half-way. Give 100% and be fearless. Thank you for the outstanding poem. Made me think tonight.

I think I liked this more than I should. lol There is a part of me that is possibly searching on purpose, for love to be equally shared, and all the while not confused with adoration, which is usually reserved for the one that breaks through the muck and fog of depression. This poem, I'm sure, could have been interpreted as many times as there are "poets" in this world, but I liked it!! -Mark

That's what this poem is all about. To reach out to different people in different situation. Thanks .. read more
Much enjoyed. The conflict of interest and/or desire can be a very palpable inner struggle for any person, young or old. Facing it head on seems to be the approach that helps best. One will either hate one and love the other. That seems inevitable as well, counting in the major factor of these being opposing desires. And the choice we usually make is the choice we eventually have to live with for the rest of our lives. Or maybe we can get creative and try one then the other, as compromise will not do, I assume that this is true. Anyway, just my 2cents on the point. Thank you for sharing and provoking consideration which I now type off my head in response. Have a happy new year!
