From Righteousness to Profanity

From Righteousness to Profanity

A Poem by Warren L.G De Mills
"

This poem takes the reader on a journey from the point of view of a young man who sold his soul and how he returns to grace

"

I am here to tell you a story that will haunt your thoughts by day

and torture your dreams by night. Though I will do my best there are

truly no words, no brush strokes laid on canvas that can accurately describe

the utter horror that befell this innocent man as his feeble feet fumbled out of

righteousness and into profanity...

blank page in a nameless book

With broken bindings and pages torn

Within this soul is a vague emptiness

Yet you insist on taking a loving look

This diamond, once placed in the diadem

Of your bleeding dripping heart

Is now dressed in dirt, draped in misery and regret

For I have succumbed to the man who sold the world

Pretty eyes and fine hair

Was the appearance of that girl

For her unconditional "love"

I sold to the devil my soul

Once a church boy, loving and sweet

Now at night for dark seances

and disease filled orgies

I venture underground hoping to meet

My pretty faced angel left me all alone

For some measure of comfort, I mournfully yearn

With this needle in my shivering arm

I shoot my new 'God' up my veins

At the sound of your name, Jesus

This blackened heart now turns away

I sold my soul to Satan

Now all that's left is blissful dismay

My nervous, sweating throat

Yields itself to succumb to the knife

perennial sorrow, my newly wedded wife

Has her dagger to my neck

Final words written in blood on the wall

This sinful man must now surely die.

With a prayer to the God I betrayed

God heard this desperate man's final cry

Lord take this man for I have sinned

I have tried the world and I'm left with nothing.

Light shines through the window and so goes the 'pane'

Jesus if at all you love me, take me and prepare me

for you holy sanctuary once again

A powerful story in this poem. Easy to fall to desire. Beauty of a woman can make us want to dance in the heat of flesh without the thoughts of the aftermath. I like how you described the journey and tried to find the road back. In the end. We must move on a wiser and smarter person. Love last forever. Lust can fade away in a instant. A strong ending to a outstanding poem.

I love how it started off as a story being told, and went into fantastically written imagery. Great job
