Empty Town

Empty Town

A Poem by Enigma

Oh I wonder,
What it must be like
To walk through this empty town,
When the lights are down,
And everything is gone,
Like a devil
Cursed in song.

Tobacco on your breath,
Wandering in death,
Oh, there is but nothing left
In this empty little town.
You swear the crimes you committed,
Were never but once truly wrong,
So you leave this empty town,
Playing your tricks with a
Inescapable frown
Like a devil
Cursed in song.

In search of something new,
You lay all your
Cards down:
A bag of old bones,
Sticks and Stones,
A heart and mind,
Shattered, and cut deep by time.
Nevermore was there hope
In mind
Of a devil
Cursed in song.

Oh I wonder,
What it must be like
To walk through this empty town,
When the lights are down,
And everything is gone,
Like a devil,
Cursed in song.

I really liked this, it was a little story that whisks the reader away rather than specifically makes a point about life and I enjoy that escape in a poem for a change :) Nice write. Thanks for sharing!
