A New Low

A New Low

A Poem by Wild Willow Blue
"

The Crow..

"

Help me to be better

I’ve never known myself like this

Peaceful in capris and high-tops

With a baseball cap flipped backwards

My heart runs in the grease of the night

To your strong hands

You have forever held me

My mother dear

Hearts on fire

Flames scorching flesh

You let me be here

With you in this life

Even though mine doesn’t amount

Too much on a day like today

It’s because you stayed

That you must face this

Not loneliness

But love

I’ve never heard a smile or held a tear

For fear of my heart breaking in pieces

Listening to your friends tell me they love me

Not for beauty, but because I’m yours

I know it hurts you like no other

They are not friends, you deserve more

More than dust and ashes

Who said true love didn’t hurt

It’s because you stayed

Never feeling the heart of another

I’ve heard you crying

Seen the glisten and sparkle

Of your tears

Who said true love doesn’t hurt

It’s only because you stayed
