A Poem by William Arthur
"

This is the concluding part of my portfolio. It is lazily meta and designed in part to bait my tutor Simon Armitage- (he better not give me 49 or 56) -he banned the word meta in class.

"

Outro

This university has become a sort of dolls house I do not fit in.

Not that I am saying I am too big for this uni.

Frick no!

I just mean that all the furniture seems uncomfortably small and

I can’t bring into focus those tiny, tiny books that hold all the answers.

I don’t think I understand this.

I don’t understand any of this.

Yet papers come back,

64, 67, 61.

I am probably jinxing this paper.

This one will come back with a 49 or a 56,

if I ever get it finished.

In my critical essay I will try and find words other than ‘meta’

to describe this poem.

If 110% is the ideal work rate,

I quite likely fall well below expectations.

I probably won’t include this poem in my portfolio.

If you are reading this poem I have run out of ideas.

I am washing my hands of this.

This poem will be the closing piece of my portfolio.

Good night and goodbye.

Great. What will you write next? (As soon as your hands dry quite likely.) Writers can't stop writing. It's a curse. If you don't write your head just fills up. Even if you know how to talk, sooner or later it will burst and, you will just lie on the ground with vowels spilling out of your brain.

Poor Mr Armitage is all I can say William. This is very clever though and I bet he wryly smiled as he read it.
Class! Brilliant start to this collection. I was going to give you 49 or 56 out of 100 but I didnt. :p
