No one but herself

There came a decision,

a plan in the making,

finding that he was just there for the taking

Crippled, her heart

by the tremors created,

she wished it not, feeling empty, deflated

He caught a ride,

on a train that was moving,

on again, off again, thinking he’s proving

He didn’t try to be

what she was needing,

not really caring her soul it was bleeding

Took her for granted like

nothing much mattered,

ran for the hills when her world he had shattered

She gave her all,

constant love, steady pouring,

looking past all of his faults, just ignoring

Time after time

with his promise deceiving,

merely a web filled with lies he was weaving

Trying her best

to hold on, this devotion,

locking her pain deep inside, her emotion

Finally, too much,

it was all she could handle,

tears flickered soft like the flame of a candle

Saying goodbye

was the hardest thing ever,

made up her mind, it was time, now or never

He brought her down,

but she’d made the decision,

opened her eyes to a beautiful vision

Gazing, the mirror,

up there on the shelf,

she smiled, she needed no one but herself

Now, in the past,

a few memories calling,

never again for his charms, she’d be falling

Eyes facing forward,

her life now renewing,

excited to enter this future she’s viewing

It amazes me, the company that some people keep. This sounds like an investment gone bad. But love isn't a trade and it never was. Love is just about the giving, not the getting back of what we've put into it. But it sounds like she had lofty expectations that were only hers for their relationship. I do know this, we can't change other people, only ourselves.
