The Song in My Head

The Song in My Head

A Chapter by Peregrinator7
"

An ode to Early Morning Jazz

"
Sitting in a class
In the morning
People stare in confusion
As I drum to the rhythm of an imaginary song
No earbuds
No headphones
Just me
Drumming to the song in my head.
Walking to class
Fresh out of jazz band
People stare in confusion
As I finger along to a saxophone lick
No earbuds
No headphones
Just me
Fingering to the song in my head.
My brain is the fills and kicks
My heart-- the beat
My feet moving to the pulse
And my fingers twitching voluntarily
With the imaginary clarinet solo
Sitting in the car
Early in the morning
People stare in confusion
As I bounce along to the walking bass
No earbuds
No headphones
Just me
Bouncing to the song in my head.
Walking into school
Early in the morning
I sit down next to the musicians
Who don't stare in confusion
As I drum, finger, and bounce
No earbuds
No headphones
Just me and them
Playing along to the song that was stuck in my head.
