Corvus

Corvus

A Poem by DIVYA

Blacker than the blackest
You murder the light
Your swarms turn a sunny day
Into a sepulchral night
Flying low and high
Scrawling satanic verses
On bright blue parchments of sky
Saturn's spiritual spawn
Cacaphonic clouds
Cursing good tidings to be gone
Concealing your cloak
Thick and repugnant as slime
Often faking a swan
In a sweet, silk-stockinged mime
Yet a mangled carcass
Thrown your way, will surely
Your true feathers betray
As you tear into flesh
oozing sinfully red and raw
A crow will always be a crow
Vengeful in its 'Caw caw caw'.

Dear Divya..
You're so correct in your strong, dark language and animosity toward the crows.....and your words fit perfectly to portray them ..at our house we have a bird feeder for the beautiful indigenous birds of the season, and who eats all the food? the crows...they hide in a tree near the house other and then swoop down and scare all the other splendid species....the sun peeks through their wings! love it!!!

The consistency, got me to consider the content's internal philosophy. Well done on the ending, with the caw caw caw reference

Somehow, the black birds have gotten some really bad press. People link them with death, see them as ill omens, etc. They're just birds, for God's sake! I can't help but believe Mr. Poe bears at least some responsibility for this.

Of all our avian friends crows and ravens are the ones I like least. Mainly because I associate them with the bloody history of the Tower of London. They remind me of death and sadness and yet they are most intelligent birds. I have heard they mourn their dead and a whole lot of other stuff you are more likely to associate with our own species. A dark write from you Divya on a day here blessed with sun.

Please excuse all the typos....
A crow always a crow...this poem makes me think of Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds.
Swarms of vengeful crows attacking the town...
I really like your alliteration in this...the poem flies like those birds.

Thank you very much.
Evil will always stay evil, no matter how many cloaks they wear or tear. The true nature has its way of coming out, because it can't be buried for too long, right? Most beautiful, vivid and gothic depiction of a crow and it's nature. Loved it like always, Divya. Stay happy my friend :)

Crows are considered inauspicious in many cultures. You got that right. This poem says more than the obvious. You have a message for some kind of people. Am I correct?

So this crow has some power to change. Whoch is strange. But the lust is greater. Dirty can not be holy?
