This is Real War

This is Real War

A Poem by J. Write

This is Real War

Up the hill, there was a war

No weapons needed, he told us so

 This is real war

How could we fight without weapons?

“No weapons!” he said. “This is real war.”

There is no war without weapons?

Bring your hearts, bring your souls

This is real war

We listened not and packed the weapons

How could we win without real weapons?

The world watched as we wore the armour

Kisses from the children, tears from our mothers

“Come back son,” my father whispered

With Beautiful memories in our hearts and mind

We began the journey up the hill

Up the hill, there was a war

Then we arrived

Over my shield, I saw no enemies

All day and still no war

Then, Hunger struck from East to West

North to South diseases spread

Broken hearts screaming in pain

Greed flourished without shame

Lies became our daily feast

Poverty loving every other day but Christmas

Jealousy, my enemy, became my friend

Hatred devoured my heart

Courage escaped the stinking fear

We bathed in waters of discrimination

Baptised ourselves in the name race

If hope was there, I must have killed him

My best friend religion deserted me

The nature I loved, my enemy destroyed

Then we cried … I cried

“Is this the war?”

“Real War,” He said

I told you, no weapons

Bring love, and lots of love

This is Real War

The message was great! And I love the way you described so many emotions in this. Life isn't always easy and you can't always fight it.

i loved the message.the thing is that we all know this, but cant manage to channel our actions in accordance with these ideals.hope your writes evoke the 'true' weapon in all your readers:)

Nicely done.

The poem tells a story of a person thinking he is ready for the real war which I understand symbolizes the real world where not everyone will be your friend, you'll be in a sense alone because you've grown up... bit by bit reality corroded the idealistic spirit until there's nothing left but cynicism and despair.

I also love the lesson in the end, love. Love is what keeps you going and are the real weapons you need in the real war.

Beautiful piece. It presented a beautiful message of true conflict that needs only love to survive. Truly amazing.

I agree that the real war should be trying to survive with love. These people could not handle a 'real war' because they were unprepared for what life was giving them. (Sorry if that is not what you were going for, but that's what I gathered from this). I think that you did a good job, but you should probably decide if you want the repetition in their or not. The repeating is good at the beginning and you bring it in again at the end, but it disappears for the majority of the poem. I just think it is inconsistant is all.

About
Well, writing about myself is one of the few things I can't do. I love writing - I guess that's why I'm here. Nature comes second, or maybe not. I think I love nature more than writing--No, I love wri.. more..
