This S**t Gets Old

This S**t Gets Old

A Poem by

The questions that you ask

An impossible task

And the answers that you deserve

The truth that you seek

I just cannot speak

For I can't put it into words

A blur was that night

Cause all we did was fight

Equal sides of right

And wrong

Our feelings had erupt

I stopped it abrupt

We both knew all along

That the times have changed

We wisened and aged

Our love became twisted

And both of us were played

We had our chance but missed it

But whose fault is it?

Each masters at this game

We're no longer the same

So why do we always wince

When we hear the other's name?

First love never dies

A prequal to hate

A third chance is too late

One another we despise

I don't know how I will face you

Quite honestly, I'm scared to

I wonder what you will say

And if it really is

Easier this way

To pretend to hate

I called it a mistake

You claim it was fake

I was in love with the old you

Now you've become the untrue

I don't like the path we lead

We became strangers instead

And now, each day

I can answer

And say

With you I was dead

Anyway

"We" were just a book reread

The guilt is what I still dread

Do you think of us that way

Too ?

I know I do.

I just wish I could face you

And say what I mean

Without you pushing back

And disagreeing

I see your side

I know you have issues

And I treat you like dirt

But listen to mine

Remember how bad I missed you

And how much I hurt

Beware your karma, you say

Well, a point, if I may

This is yours

Come back times three

But no matter what you get

It's still better yet

Than what you did to me

It took you this long to finally see

That you were actually in love with me

Were you scared or something?

It wasn't too soon.

So what did you have to lose?

Your dignity ?

No, nothing.

We never would've made it

I'm glad the feeling faded

I could keep on going and going

And give a million reasons why

But here's to all my years of knowing

Our first hello

Should've been follwed

By a long time waited for

Crucially needed

Goodbye

A strong poem. Honest and direct words. I like the way you described your desire and reason for a escape. The title brought me to this outstanding poem.

I hope writing this was something of a catharsis for you. Clearly the pain and emotions are raw and the wounds open - taking ownership of this and moving on is a wise and necessary step towards healing. I hope you find what you seek.

This sounds like a relationship I was in years ago. I got scarred up a bit, but I survived and moved on ahead.
