You Were My World In Another Life

You Were My World In Another Life

A Poem by
"

It's too late for you to try to mean something to me in this new life... I wish you would've spoken sooner... Oh 2009, where did you take my friends to ?

"

Today I took a stroll down memory lane

Followed a dead trail of dried tears and young pain

I began to see a pattern

Of then and of now

What I thought truly mattered

Made sense back then, somehow

And in the end, all that remained

Were a few loose ends

Some "what coulda been" 's

The forgotten friends

And the cycle started over again

We all do it sometime

There's no avoiding the truth in my rhyme

We split the stitches open

Pick the scabs and watch it bleed

To remind yourself it did happen

A little reminder is all we need

We can't just let it heal and forget it

Often times we think we regret it

Just when you think you're happy

You always go and second guess

How would that life have been ?

Was the decision I made the best ?

The one logical answer to that

That rises above the rest

Is if it were meant to be

It already would've happened to me

And the cycle started over again

But where did this even begin ?

I loved the poem. The way you put your heart in to it made it worth wild. Great job.

Heartfelt touching piece with raw emotions spilling from every line. Nicely done.

Ah, to look back in wonder ... a very sentimental write, well crafted.

You combined confessionalism with contemplation and that's something I'll never be sick of reading.

The crazy part, is as personal as these words are, they below to all of us because, you are touching upon universal sentiment.

Poem full of contraditions, of love, pain, deception, and hope. You know, Carly, I believe in "meant to be"... and the last sentence of your poem brought me a smile in my face: "But where did this even begin?" Intelligent sentence closing your thoughts...and the reader (me) at this point smiled...
Very good poem! *Mary*

Would've, should've, could've...The ever-haunting questions of everyone's history. Very well expressed.

Very nice as many of us love to look back and wonder. As poets we all most certainly do.

Yes as humans we certainly do this. You have penned this so poetically well.
