IN YOUR SHADOW WHERE I SHONE

IN YOUR SHADOW WHERE I SHONE

A Poem by M. L. F.
"

For my father, whose years were far less than I had wished...

"

Remembering when I was small

You held my hand, I felt so tall

Atop your lap, a mighty throne,

within your shadow where I shone.

You taught me how to catch a fish,

to toss a coin and make a wish

Oh how I wish I had those coins

I’d reverse time just to enjoy

the sun as it set on the lake,

to stop you on that fateful day -

You took your life, I wasn’t there

Upon your lake of dark despair.

I’d take those shining coins of gold

Back to your shadow...

 ...Where I shone

It is the best expression of love for a father from you...
REMEMBERING WHEN I WAS SMALL

WITHIN YOUR SHADOW WHERE I SHONE

This was really touching. My parents divorced when I was really young, so I didn't see my dad very much. About a week ago, he had a heart attack. And now I'll never see him again. I didn't have a connection to my dad like you had with yours, but this poem still means a lot to me.

You deserve kind thoughts. And you are more than welcome. (hugs back) :)
Very impactful. Very reminiscent. I can practically see emotions running off these words. My father was never part of my life, so I can't claim to be able to relate. Regardless, the grandeur of this piece isn't lost to me. Such terrible things are too often forced upon great people. Take care, Misty.
