When All That's Left Are Ghosts

When All That's Left Are Ghosts

A Poem by WritersBlock21

He sits alone at night,

In the cold dark bedroom.

A wave of acceptance hits him.

A choked sob escapes his thin lips,

And he fights the tears begging to spill over his defined cheek bones.

He's never felt so separated from the rest of the world before.

Bringing pale legs up to his chest,

He lets the pain release from within.

He feels that emptiness in his stomach,

And a noise flows out of his mouth.

A strangled plea,

The saddest sound one could possibly hear

Just escaped from this poor man.

"Just someone to hold,

Somebody who could love me back!"

He screams into the night,

Not realizing no one will listen.

The man shakes his head,

Letting hair as black as a ravens feather fall by his bright green eyes.

Then the man does something unexpected,

He smiles.

His face lights up and he pulls the covers over him.

He whispers into the darkness so soft only the wind would hear it.

"Goodnight, I love you."
