The Walk in the RainA Poem by Selena UptainOnce while walking in the
rain
I heard a voice call my name. I stopped and looked all around But I couldn't find the sound. So on I went but I still couldn't see The face of who was
calling me. But then the footsteps
close behind, Footsteps that I knew weren't mine. I could hear my heart skip
a beat As closer drew these
unseen feet. On and on and still the
same This mysterious voice
called my name. And still I turned but
could not see Who it was, following me. And harder down, came the
rain As I walked through forest
fane. Chilling me to my core Leaving my muscles sore. But further still came the
sound Of unseen footsteps on the
ground. And as my heart began to
race I began to quicken my
pace. And deeper into this
forest green I was being followed by
the unseen. Deeper still into the
forest down Louder still came the
sound. “What do you want?” I
cried aloud. I only heard the whistle
of the leafy shroud. On I went and to a lake I stood on a dock that was
about to break. And then a laugh close
behind Followed by the footsteps
that were not mine. Then I felt a push from
hands cold as snow Pushing me into the depths
below. As I plunged through the
dark I heard the muffled
chirping of a lark And the gurgled laughter from up above. I felt as weightless as a
dove. And as my lungs began to
burn I felt as limp as a fern. And as there was nothing
left to feel, I knew that what I heard wasn't real. It had all been in my mind And now my body they would
never find.
