Old House

Old House

A Poem by YanZeros
"

Old House (END)

"

Pulling off the sheets and placed them inside an empty box

Sealing it with packaging tape... Reminiscing...

Has it been twenty-two years since we lived in this house?

For that long how deep was our story scribbled upon each room?

Moving out down to the flight of fourteen wooden steps

Sounding creaks carrying the smell of methane that termite produced

Oh Poor old house you’ve become a tremendous blessing upon sheltering us

Growing up with you was one of our life’s greatest adventure

Remembering the times when we used your freestanding handrail as a slide

With small children, laughter's bouncing off from your grayed old walls

Each time we get home from school we raced up to reach the entrance door

Knocking three times or more and say to ourselves “At last, we made it home!”

Remembering the times when we scrub your wooden floors

Causing it to sparkle mirroring the painted white ceiling above

Wearing our socks we skate around as if we’re having icy winters

When out of energy we laid down our heads on your shiny surface

Remembering the times when you protected us from calamities

When the ground shakes you choose to sway rather than knocking down

During a heavy downpour, the howls of winds the sounds of thunder reverberate

Within your old wooden structure that has kept us safe and sound

But the time has come as we watched you get demolished and turned down

In just a few months you were completely gone in our sight

Replaced with a commercial establishment that houses business enterprise

Deep in our hearts we tearfully cried as we remember the place we call home

Turning our backs for the very last time

Leaving with our farewell and goodbyes

Then one day will point out and say "That's the place where we used to live."

Old House, you’ve now become part of a dream scenery imprinted in our very soul.

This is really well-written! Sadly, I cannot relate because honestly I have never lived at one place for too long to feel any attachment towards it :p
Still I liked reading this! :)

I absolutely love this piece! The flow is flawless and it is very well written. I believe most readers have the ability to relate to this which makes it powerful and maybe even saddening in its own way.
