"A man walks down a road..."

"A man walks down a road..."

A Poem by Brian 'Yeti' Fields
"

Poem inspired by a recent turn of events at my school.

"

A man walks down a road

He knows the road is rough, and winding

But he cannot see much of it

The lighting is dim and he cannot look around

He carries on his back a load,

Large, heavy, almost immovable

But he is expected to carry it

So he does

He knows most of what he carries

But sometimes the weight grows

And he feels he cannot bear it

But he continues forward

Blindly pushing to the end

He must just look forward

But he cannot see far

He cannot look down to help steady his feet

For the cargo he carries is heavy,

And will surely cause him to topple over

On the other hand, he cannot look up
To a God who promised to help bear the burden

For the cargo he carries is heavy

And will surely fall from his shoulders

He must just look forward

But he cannot see far

He knows there are people who care for him

And people who want to help bear this trouble

But he knows that it is their love that encumbers him

Along with his own stresses and trials

People see him stumble, and decide he cannot handle the load

But as the weight comes off his shoulders

His path actually worsens, as the lights grow fainter

What they do not see about this man's struggle

Is that the load he carried, despite the ruin

Kept him alive, kept him pushing through the rain
