She Said She'd Stay

She Said She'd Stay

A Poem by Yvette Shaw
"

This is a poem I wrote, regarding a writer who was almost forced out by cruel and unnecessary judgments of careless people. I myself have received reviews that have been hurtful and offensive, we need to do better in support of each other. If you dislike

"

    She Said She’d Stay

Always something to be said

about the demon’s we all have

living in our head

We try in silence, to make them leave,

hopes of silence, again we plead.

With open hearts, we ask for help.

For understanding, and guidance of

what is felt.

No judgment or criticism we all cry.

Just understanding, and maybe, an

answer; Why?

We take our beatings, all our bruises,

and we come up stronger: not our

choosing.

A simple: it’s o.k., or, please just

try. Would go a hell of a lot farther

than: just fold and die.

With painstaking effort, she took the

blow’s, from unwitting attackers, she

did not know.

The choice to run, to disappear, and

flea. Overcome by her strength and

need to succeed.

She said she’d stay, a victorious day.

For those who don’t appreciate that,

Maybe you should go away…

For Belinda: Who found the strength to stay

I think we should keep in mind something Erykah Badu said a few years: "Keep in mind I'm an artist and I'm sensitive about my sh*t." I think we all come here for constructive criticism and not to be berated. You're right. We should be a little more sensitive when dealing with other people's art and consider that they are putting themselves into it, so destructive criticism cuts to the core. You express this nicely. Good work.

Well, alright! Great write and I'm glad she decided to stay, too! Good job!

No one's perfect, except One. Perhaps we'd all be wiser to remember that...

This website should be for everybody! No discrimination based on color, creed, gender, orientation, or intellectual what-the-hell-ever! Nobody knows everything! And judgment should be reserved for someone higher than all of us! I certainly sit in judgment of no one! I'm glad you're staying, Belinda!

This is such a beautiful poem... passionate, full of love and admiration

"We take our beatings, all our bruises, and we come up stronger: not our choosing."

...I love this... the honesty, the strength gained from acceptence captured perfectly
