The Furthest Branch

The Furthest Branch

A Poem by A. A. Zambrana

Oh how the darkness crept and folded over the light in my eyes
and left only a sweetness so smiling it ate through my teeth

And I was a darkened sweet thing starving for air
I was sinking into stone for some depth
but found myself spread across the surface
and weakened into the thinnest matter
too delicate to soak up the lightest of tears

How gently the air tremored and I was swept away
and caught by your furthest branch
hanging over the cliff while the sturdy stones
were rolling off the edges below

But I was latched to your bark as if you had birthed me
and pulled with your roots the water to fill me
so that when the winds blew to taunt me
I could hold to you, if I wanted.

I'm only 19, I feel I'm too young to have a Biography. I think the most eloquent and honest biography I could assemble is quite simply interwoven in all of my poetry. Except that none of my poems ment.. more..
