It's been only a year

Since I saw his face

Yet it seems like so much longer

 

It's been only a few months

Since I last heard you

Yet you feel like a stranger to me

 

It's been only a year

Yet I find I can't talk with you

The way we used to do, without those awkward pauses.

This is a short poem but it really says a great deal. I imagine most of us have experienced the feeling you're expressing quite simply but with real skill. I wonder how long it took you to write ... did it flow out of you easily, quickly, or did you have to work at it?

great write... I know what this is like. I can recall when one of best friends from high school went away for freshmen year to a school out of state. she came back the following summer she was not the person who i use to know. we dont talk anymore.

For someone new to poetry writing, you're really good. I like how you got straight to the point, and how your thoughts showed through, even with simple phrases and use of language. I've seen some poems that are full of big words that I don't know the meaning of until I look it up, and I know that I'm not the only one! Well done, Zandra.
