BookLife

A Poem by Zoe Richardson
"

What a book represents and what images come to mind when I hear the word "book."

"

BookLife

A book is bottle

A message for the future

Tossed in the sea of time

It is a madness you

Can walk away from

Words without fear

A book is butterfly

With paper wings

And inkblot feathers

A brief existence

Between its pages

Becomes a lifetime

It is the flutter of fingers

The heartbeat of letters

A splash of secrets

Drenched in the distant

Sound of memories

A book is the promise

Of something better

Made real if only

Between the pages

Of my eyes.

illuminating words and it speaks to the power of writing. Because it has the ability to enter the heart of the reader and profoundly change them. It is as a writer our source of immortality. We will always occupy that space in a person's soul unless a greater idea and moving words take our place, but even still our memory remains. I still remember the books and stories of my youth that had great impact on my writing to this day. Thank you for sharing your work Zoe. It is a reminder of why we write.
