Regret

Regret

A Poem by Andrea A. Wentz
"

A poem about the darkness of regret.

"

To hate yourself
To love yourself
To fear yourself
To know yourself
All can be scary
All can hurt
All can be joyful
All can illuminate
But to regret
To have seen
What could have been
The mistakes you might have made
And the friends you left behind
The joys you might have had
And the friends you might have made
Nothing is more permanent than regret
The fear that permeates your soul
The understanding that fills your mind
The simple fear of another road
The paths you walked
And the ones you didn't
Fear of change
Fear of chance
Fear of now
Fear of then
Fear of pain
Fear of happiness
Fear of loss
All is hollow
For here
Regret reigns

Shouldn't that be "permeates?" And, I am pretty sure that it is "scary." I sure hate to nitpick, especially when the poem is so wonderful. :)

I really like the repetition. Usually, that is too much repetition for my taste, but it was perfect or about perfect in this particular piece.

I am ford of this passage:

"And the friends you left behind
The joys you might have had
And the friends you might have made
Nothing is more permanent than regret "

Good point! But, the wise Timon (I believe) once said, "You have to put your past behind you. Hakuna matata!" What a wise little rodent or rodent-like creature! :)

Great work!

I didn't leave reviews on the other two because it seems like this is a series and I wanted to see how it was back to back to back. You really did well at hitting the heart of those feelings I'm sure many have felt at some point in their life, teenage or not. I sure hope you continue with this. I'd really like to read what you do with other the entire myriad of feelings one probaby feels/felt in their teenage years.

Deep, nice how you express your emotions. "All is hollow/For here/Regret reigns", so do you still regret your teenager years or was it a learning experience? One thing I do know is that my teenager years was no different than yours. Quite touching. This was a delight to read.
