One Step Closer

One Step Closer

A Poem by Adam Jordan Turner

Grasping on to the window pane,

engaging a world ready to rain.

Something about this time,

is simply not the same.

I don't know why, my efforts go in vain,

But I don't want to be one step closer again.

I'm ready for it,

ready for love.

I'm sick of coming close,

and walking away with a grudge.

I don't deserve the hurt,

I don't deserve the shame,

I don't want to be one step closer again.

Is it that I'm not cut out,

for what this journey requires?

No, I've been cut out,

and now I'm just tired.

I'm not asking for drama,

I'm not seeking games,

I just don't want to be one step closer again.

So the final step I'm taking

is over the ledge.

My hearts already there,

over the edge.

If you feel compelled to catch me,

do not refrain.

For I'm telling you now,

I will never be one step closer again.
