My Advice to You....

My Advice to You....

A Poem by Amanda
"

inspired by "Dirty Pretty Little Things" by Bubo...and dedicated to my youngest daughter, Rachel

"

In your formidable years,

At a time that you are transforming

From child to adult,

The pressure to fit in,

To find your place,

Weighs heavily on you

It is especially difficult

If you are different

And stand out from the rest

The dirty pretty little things

Try desperately to point you out

Ridiculing because you are not like them

Making you feel more unsure,

More out of place….

This advice I give to you…

Be yourself; strive to be who you are

Differences are your individuality

Let your own inner light shine through

Though you may think and find it complicating

At this time in your life,

It is better to walk your own path

And become who you are meant to be

From experience I have come to find

That the ones that had tried to push

Become somewhat less,

Reveling in faded glory

Wishing things had been different

Sometimes regretting the past…

This I tell you,

As someone that has been there

For I was and still am different

Be unique in yourselves

That is what sets you apart from the rest

Hold your head high

Be proud of who and what your are

Don’t worry about what the pretties think

Because they will never really matter

In the grand scheme of life.

This is written lovingly with a youthful touch. Such a needful message. It seems I never fit in any one particular group and rightfully so, because I could easily move between the social classes. Flat out refusing to be fit into a mold or told who I was allowed to befriend. Oh, don't get me wrong. Still today, usually I feel self-conscious especially in large groups, but somehow I manage to force myself out of my own comfort zone. Your children are blessed to have a mother that teaches such valuable wisdom. Nicely written.

The vision and guidance that I guess only a mother or parent could truly see as clear... Great write friend I hope all is well with you.

Amen to every word of that. Difference is often riduculed by the mean average, which can sometimes be very mean and often average. Difference is what tends to make us interesting.

Ah... Lovely lines there. The entire poems was extremely inspiring and a wonderful read! The expression and deep thought drive me to believe you truly care about those girls. I know you truly care about them. Only someone, truly thinking from the heart, could write such a fine piece of poetry! Keep it up.

Such a beautiful piece of advice, and so much love shines through and faith........and thank fully one thing I have is faith........faith in who my child wants to be, be it different from what society expects.........The lines below are so true, there seems to be no peace if you stand out, but all we can do is stand behind, see what all these other children are like, and ask ourselves, would we want our child to be like that?
So we battle for our own.............thank you for sharing, and the fact you were inspired by "Dirty Pretty Little Things" lifts my heart :)
