Passion and I

Passion and I

A Poem by Anum Khan

There is no motivation
We stand at a distance
Brick walls and metal gates
Piled neatly to divide us
Invisible demons surprise us
Sometimes its The Fear
Other times its Angst
Thunder roars; Lightening shrieks
Invincible forces working to separate us
Passion and I - we are distant
Different directions, opposing escalators
Thirsty for new knowlege, new findings
Disappointments run this show folks
Discontentment only illiterates us
Passion and I, we are not one
Something pernicious separates us.

I find this all the more interesting after reading your comment about sitting down at a typewriter and bleeding. For so many - passion is equivalent to inspiration and when passion ebbs we do not create. Yet this wonderful poem is a creation even in the absence of passion. Well done.

This is a good poem with a good message.. we must always be able to pursue passion because it is a part of us.. otherwise we become depressed, stagnated

If any two lines could describe me, if I could claim them as my own. These two would be it.

"Different directions, opposing escalators, Thirsty for new knowledge, new findings"
You possess a wonderful arsenal of dramatic words my friend. They are perfect to describe the subject that you have chosen for this poetic piece. "Thunder roars; Lightning shrieks"---"invisible demons surprise us". All of this may be true, of course, but you have the knack of putting it on the table with a beautiful centerpiece of words. Thank you my friend

Passion can move us, but we must be allowed to pursue it. It is so difficult when we cannot embrace it. Good write!

I really enjoyed the concept of this piece. The way that we internally put up walls and fences to separate us from things. Often times we have passion, for instance, and it is right there within reach, but that little voice inside our head says "but what about social stigma", "what will others think", "is this really what should happen"...these are all walls being build by our own minds. Sometimes these walls protect us, and other times they separate us from happiness. This was introspective, my friend. I quite enjoyed the feeling and the emotion in the lines.
