Travellers

Travellers

A Poem by alanwgraham
"

Our journey through life

"

Travellers

We are all travellers

Each journey uncertain

Each step unknown

Alone and in company

We come together

We fall apart

In calm and in storm

In silence and in clamour

Step by step we journey

In light and in darkness

In knowledge and in ignorance

In thirst and in hunger

Step by step we journey

In hate and in love

In fear and in courage

We are all travellers

On the journey of life

But one thing is certain

Our destination is sure!

Beyond the literal meaning, your poem evokes a sense of acceptance with all that life throws at us. In a roundabout way, you're soothing the person who thinks life is being particularly hard on him/her. Actually, life is hard on everyone, sooner or later. And then we die. Such a lyrical path to this somewhat snarky ending! *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie

There are 7.6 billion of us travellers here on earth & an impossible to imagine number of different routes and paths to travel throughout our individual lives, but sure enough, only one ultimate destination... I reckon you just about covered the lot here, Cheers Alan.. tis always good to be reminded of our own mortality... I say laugh out as loud as loud as ya can, for as long as ya can......... Neville

I agree dear Chris.
"We are all travellers
On the journey of life
But one thing is certain
Our destination is sure!"
My father told me often. Three things we must do. Be born, pay taxes and die. I liked the honest words and truth in your words. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

Me too. Must pay taxes and you are welcome Alan.
We are all indeed travellers Alan. That is one thing we do all have in common. We know what will happen to us eventually but we don't have a clue how the rest of the time will play out. Some good, some bad, some interesting, some dull. Life is an adventure that's for sure.

Yes it's good that we have surprises, otherwise life could become quite monotonous.

Nothing more certain than the fact we are all born to die, the only unknown is when and how. And in between our first and last breaths there will be many highs and lows, hopefully less of the latter and more of the former.

Well said Allan, life sure is a journey we all take different roads. But we start and finish the same way.

Thanks dee. Perhaps the message is too obvious but somehow most of us think tomorrow never comes.read more
It most certainly is Alan, whether we walk or race, we are all going to find real equality one day, its just a pity we couldnt get it to work so well while we are alive. :)

You are most welcome Alan...
this is something else very philosophical, very true and real... a journey where we know our destination but we sometimes fail to follow the right direction but then lessons learned along the way will make the journey a meaningful one

That's right--one fate awaits us all. Then it's how we're remembered. A bum? A fool? Success? Failure? For my part, I just hope they think I did more good than harm. This poem is worth reflecting upon.
