chained together

chained together

A Poem by Max Riot

as she walked through the blurry school that had become her own hell
collateral damage followed her like a shadow she couldn't shake
like a cloud that wouldn't stop raining

as the words that she refused to acknowledge reminded her of what she'd done
her shadow grew stronger

darker and darker
blacker and blacker
more prominent than ever

and with every word that she denied
collateral damage gained a better hold on her
clinging to her like a baby deer clings to it's mothers stomachs

colosseums welcomed guests to take pictures of the chains that held her
pillars of agony kept her indifferent

flowers without pollen reminded her of the inconsiderate silence that sound provides
bees without stripes reminded her of the sound of silence

the incessant buzzing of silence that is not silence

but even then, as she fought against the chains
collateral damage wouldn't let go

so as collateral damage was chained to her as she was chained to her thoughts
the two struggled to break free
collateral damage had realized that it couldn't be attached to her any longer
that it was being destroyed

that the girl was collateral damage's shadow
the the girl would become the collateral damage in it's attempt to break free of the girl

that collateral damage became the girl and the girl became collateral damage and the two were stuck
eternally chained together
and eternally in agony
