Debris

Debris

A Poem by Laz K.

Feigning interest she asks,

“How have you been?”

I want to tell her that

“I died

Went to haven

Came back and

Lived a hundred lives, was

A tree

A bird

A stone

A butterfly

A star

A speck of dust

Air

A ray of light

Darkness

Silence

A song

And many other things

But you were not there

To see

To hear

To experience

Any of that”

But we’re cosmic debris in orbit

Pulverized fragments of our last collision

Rushing back out into the void

So, I simply hum, “Fine”

As we zip by and let

Emptiness once more

Swallow us as it did

A thousand times before
