love at 2:26 a.m.

A Poem by Laz K.
"

Do we mean the same when we say the same words?

"

“love you” she says at 2:26 am

before dropping her head on

a lonely pillow

dropping these two little words

in my lap like a bird drops from her beak

a seed that’s

too hard to crack

too big to swallow

“love you” I say to her every day

with a torrent of words

that showers her like a waterfall

bathing her as a mother bathes

her newborn babe

watching her as dreamy-eyed

man saw his woman first

at the dawn of time

I have to wonder is she sees it the same way.
