What They Want

What They Want

A Poem by Alyssa

Shut it out.

It’s just a stupid word to set you off.

To haunt you in your dreams,

So that it is all you see.

Just walk away.

Why are you there in the first place?

They don’t listen to a word you say.

They want your face red,

Have it aching in your head.

Don’t give them what they want.

Laugh it out.

What they said is just a funny thing.

You’re laughing away,

They don’t know what to say.

You tell 'em are you serious?

I think you’re just delirious.

Oh hey look at the time,

I got to get back to my life.

Don’t give them what they want.

I really like this. The constant reminder to not give them what they want is refreshing throughout. I really enjoyed the questioning throughout as well. This is really well written and what I would call a sort of simple genius. :)
