MY THINGS

MY THINGS

A Poem by andrew mitchell

I can't bear the thought-----
Of going empty handed.
How I'll miss the films,
And all my favourite books.
How I'll miss my music,
And girls with good looks.
How I'll miss the trees,
And my four legged friends
I wish I could take them with me-----
Damm this mortality!

Excellent free verse with a fresh look at mortality from a down to earth, day to day perspective. Reminded me of the movie sunshine (1973) starring Cristina Raines and Cliff De Young and this song (it is a true story based up the diaries of Kate Hayden living in the woods with her husband, a struggling musician, and her daughter who discovers she has terminal cancer. She begins to tape-record a journal of the time she has left.-John Denver's 'Sunshine on my Shoulders' was the theme tune.

I was wondering where this was going Andrew.
The punchline was very good - the whole write was cleverly pulled off.
Kudos.

Thank you ANTO
I agree. I do worry about my book collection. Kids don't care about them. I like the items in the poem. Death isn't fair. Thank you for the excellent poetry.
