On the grey matter parade of eternal ink.

On the grey matter parade of eternal ink.

A Poem by andrew mitchell

While death and life
was just black and white
the concept of being
left the mind
in shades of grey.
While old age
presented itself
as a decline,
trapped in time warp
was grey matter
feeling no different
as decades passed,
failing to grasp
the foundations of mortality,
and that one
would eventually die.

Incidentally... I believe our Spirit lives on... perhaps in a newly born baby who
may be a better poet in many genres. Pat

I hope so Pat otherwise what a waste!
Your poem makes me ponder the vagaries of the old mental wiring up top. It's a strange irony that we are most often killed off by something our bodies fail at, when our minds are still roaring along. I'd sure as hell rather it be that way, than to be a mindless vegetable in a thriving body (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thank you Margie, yes sadly age is like that!
It is really difficult to contemplate your own brain shutting down. Your own grey matter ceasing to be. Life is both black and white and for much of the time grey as well.

I don't think it's ever clear to a healthy person what death is really going to be like. That grey matter doesn't seem to compute what will be until it's time.

i may be declining a bit in my older age...but am grateful for being, having been...and in time have realized that life is full of shades of gray...even with the black and white that is obvious at times.
