It’s just a use by date

It’s just a use by date

A Poem by andrew mitchell

What is mortality
but an end
to a beginning.

It’s just a use by date,
and with it comes
total exhaustion
from the last breath
that doesn’t count
for anything.

If you don't use it by the expiration date, do you go into the garbage can? Or do they give you to the poor?

I suppose in Russia you are thrown in the garbage. Don't want to make the poor sick!
If it is an end to a beginning then a lot of us are in for some surprises ...
I have cared for a lot of people who have begged for an ending to it all without any thought of a new beginning :(

Poor souls Stella. Yes pain and cancer are terrible ways to go. Thank you for reviewing.
every beginning has an end, and often we are allowed to go past the use by date...
many things are good past that date.

Some things are best before rather than use by . Thanks Jacob nice to hear from you.
Andrew,
My first job out of high school in 1967 was as an orderly in the county hospital. I saw a lot of "last breaths," almost all of them were a blessing as powerful as the one that did not come next. What I learned was, don't die having unresolved issues with loved ones...
